Where did the Gaels of Ireland originate?

I have heard the term Celts used to refer to the Irish people, of course, but I have also heard the term used to refer to the Gauls of France. I also recently read a piece of literature placing their origins in Spain. Does anyone have any historical evidence to prove either one of these theories?
