If God is not concerned about your happiness, then what's the point?

I have heard many Christians (including actor Kirk Cameron) say that God is not concerned with a person's happiness. So what's the whole point with that? Should Christians (and I'm not claiming to be one anymore) just be satisfied with the way things are, and just enjoy life with what they have? Sounds pretty boring to me.
