The nhl used to freeze puck before the games why did they stop? What did freezing the puck actually do?

They still keep the pucks at a certain temperature...the pucks used in games are kept in a cooler which is kept at a certain temperature to have consistency throughout all games because the temperature of the puck changes the way it reacts to how its treated
